Preparing for Christmas

Before you walk out the front door, pile the kids into the car & head off on your holiday, take a few minutes to make sure that your house is also ready for your holiday.

1. Keep your Christmas tree away from windows. Even though you will probably be taking your presents with you, it’s a good idea to keep your tree away from windows to make sure any would be thieves don’t know you’re away.

2. Mail collection. Even if you will only be gone for a few days, it’s best to have a friend or relative pop by & collect your mail. Invest in a ‘no junk mail’ sign – just for the festive season – to minimise the amount of items that will be shoved through your letterbox.

3. Lights. While it’s obvious to all if you leave a light on 24 hours a day for a week that you’re not home, why not invest in some timers to make sure that your lights only come on for the time that you would normally be home.

4. Bin collection. Another good way to ensure your house looks lived in is to make sure your bin still gets put out on bin day. Perhaps ask a neighbour if you know they’ll be home – sweeten the deal by offering to do the same for them.

5. Get your car serviced. There has got to be nothing worse than the car breaking down with a car full of kids on a hot summer day. Save yourself a possible nightmare & get your car serviced before the festive season hits. This also includes tyres – have a look at your tyres tonight!
