Amy Gillett Foundation Ride

The Tiffen cycling team will be sponsoring and participating in The Big Canberra Bike Ride on Sunday 5 March 2017. The Big Canberra Bike Ride is one of the biggest events on Canberra’s cycling calendar.

The Big Canberra Bike Ride is coordinated by Pedal Power ACT to provide an opportunity for cyclists of all abilities and ages to celebrate safe cycling in Canberra.

The event is proud to support the Amy Gillett Foundation as the official charity partner for the 2017 Ride. The Foundation was born out of tragedy, the death of Amy Gillett, who was hit and killed by an out-of-control motorist while cycling with her national teammates in Germany. Since the Foundation’s inception it has been a catalyst for change, focused on what should be rather than what was.

The ACT Government has commenced a trial of minimum overtaking distance legislation based on the Amy Gillett Foundation’s ‘a metre matters’ campaign. There is much work to be done to ensure that the trial becomes permanent law. We hope our support of this event will go some way to help the Foundation undertake this work, and to further our combined efforts to create a safer environment for bike riders in the ACT and across Australia.

The Big Canberra Bike Ride provides a safe, enjoyable day for the bike riding community with entertainment and activities running in the Event Village where family and friends can relax as they wait for their rider to cross the finish line.
